This social bookmarking sites list collects services where you can save a public link to a page, add tags and a short note, and let other people discover it. Most of these sites mark outbound links as nofollow or ugc, so treat bookmarking as a way to get a page seen and visited, not as a quick ranking boost.
What counts as a social bookmarking site
A social bookmarking site is a public place to store links instead of keeping them only in your browser. Other users can browse your saved links by tag, follow your collections or vote on them. Some, like Diigo and BibSonomy, are classic bookmark managers. Others, like Pinterest and Flipboard, work more like discovery feeds built around saved links.
How this list is checked
Every site here was added by hand, and our link checker regularly confirms it still loads; dead sites are removed. A site stays on the list only if it still loads and still lets people save or submit links. Bookmarking services close or change their rules often, and several famous names from the early days no longer exist. If you find a dead entry, please let us know so we can remove it.
How to use the table
- Pick two or three sites that match your topic and audience, not every site at once.
- Create a real profile with a short bio and a link to your homepage.
- Save your best pages with your own title, a one-line summary and a few honest tags.
- Save useful pages from other people too, so your profile looks like a person and not an ad feed.

Do bookmarking links help SEO?
Not directly in most cases. Google asks sites to mark user-generated links, such as comments and forum posts, with rel="ugc", and links that site owners do not want to vouch for with rel="nofollow". Most bookmarking sites do one or both. Google's spam policies also name "low-quality directory or bookmark site links" as an example of link spam. A link from a spammy bookmark site is not a vote you want.
That does not make bookmarking useless. A saved link can bring real visitors, and Google says pages linked with these attributes may still be found through other means. If your problem is that pages are not getting crawled or indexed, read which social bookmarking sites still get indexed before you spend time here. For how links work in general, see our beginner guide to backlinks and SEO.
What I learned bookmarking every article by hand
For years I submitted every article I published, by hand, to many social bookmarking sites. It took a lot of time after each post: logging in, writing a title and description, choosing tags, and moving to the next site. After Google's crackdown on link spam (the Penguin update in 2012) I stopped doing it out of caution. I share this as a lesson, not a method to copy. Doing it for every post on every site is the habit I would not repeat today.
Social bookmarking sites list: tips that still make sense
Match the site to the content
Visual guides and recipes fit Pinterest. Research links fit Diigo or BibSonomy. News and commentary fit Flipboard or a niche community like Slashdot for tech. A good match brings readers who actually click.
Write for people, not for search engines
Use a plain title that says what the page is. Keep the description short and honest. Stuffing keywords into tags makes a profile look like spam to both users and moderators.
Go slowly and stay consistent
Save one or two good pages a week instead of fifty in a day. Mass submission tools and fake accounts are the fastest way to get banned and to end up with exactly the kind of links Google calls spam.
Mistakes to avoid
- Bookmarking only your own pages and nothing else.
- Copying the same description to every site.
- Paying for bulk bookmarking packages that promise hundreds of links.
- Posting only links from a brand-new account on its first day.
- Expecting rankings to change because of bookmarks alone.
Use this social bookmarking sites list as a short menu, not a checklist to finish. Pick the few sites your readers really use, save pages that deserve attention, and judge the results by visits, not by link counts.
Frequently asked questions
Are social bookmarking sites still worth using?
They can be, if your audience uses them. Pinterest and Flipboard can still send visitors to the right kind of content. As a link-building method on its own, bookmarking has little value today.
Are social bookmarking backlinks dofollow?
Most are not. The majority of sites add nofollow or ugc to outbound links. You can check by right-clicking a saved link, choosing Inspect, and looking at the rel attribute.
Can social bookmarking hurt my site?
Normal, occasional bookmarking will not. Mass submissions to low-quality bookmark sites can, because Google's spam policies list those links as link spam. Keep it manual, relevant and slow.
