Free classified submission sites let you post a short ad for a product, service, job or event so that people in a city or niche can find it and contact you. They work best for local leads and quick sales. They are not a good way to build SEO backlinks, so judge them by replies and customers.

Who classified sites are for

Classifieds suit people who sell to a place or a clear group: a tutor, a plumber, someone selling a used car, a small shop with a weekend sale. Big general sites like Craigslist and Gumtree cover many cities. Niche sites like Racing Junk for race cars or Farmzilla for farm goods reach a smaller but more interested audience. Regional sites such as Sulekha serve specific communities.

How the list is checked

Every site here was added by hand, and our link checker regularly confirms it still loads; dead sites are removed. We do not test how many replies an ad gets, and we do not rank sites by traffic. Fees, posting limits and rules change, so read each site's posting rules before you write an ad. If an entry is dead, let us know.

How to use the table

  1. Start with sites that cover your city or your niche.
  2. Check whether posting is free for your category. Craigslist, for example, says all postings are free except some categories such as jobs, certain housing and vehicle ads, and services.
  3. Post one clear ad per item or service on each site.

Classified ads vs other local listings

If you run a local business, a classified ad is a short push. Your long-term base is a Google Business Profile plus a few local business directories. Our guide to Google Business Profile vs local directories explains which to do first, and you can check that your name, address and phone match everywhere you list them.

Writing ads on free classified submission sites

A short checklist

  • Title: say exactly what it is and where. "Math tutor for high school students, North Austin" beats "Best tutor!!!".
  • Price: give a price or a clear range when you can. It saves a lot of back-and-forth messages.
  • Details: condition, size, hours, area served. Answer the questions people would ask.
  • Photos: your own clear photos, not stock images.
  • Contact: use the site's messaging or a business number, not your personal address.

Do not spam

Posting the same ad again and again, in many cities you do not serve, or in the wrong category usually gets ads removed and accounts blocked. Renew or edit one ad instead of posting copies. Also skip "SEO classified" packages that blast your link to hundreds of sites. Ads expire, and Google's spam policies treat links bought or built mainly for ranking as link spam, so the result is often wasted money.

Track what works

Keep a simple note of where you posted, the date and how many real replies each ad brought. If you send people to your website, add a tracking parameter to the link or ask callers where they found you. After a few weeks you will know which two or three sites are worth renewing and which you can drop.

Stay safe when buyers reply

Classified sites attract scammers as well as buyers. The US Federal Trade Commission warns never to pay anyone who insists on payment by gift card, wire transfer, cryptocurrency or a payment app, and to be careful with someone who sends a check and asks you to send money back. Other simple habits help:

  • Meet in a public place for local sales, and bring someone with you.
  • Do not share codes sent to your phone; they are often used to take over accounts.
  • Be wary of buyers who agree without asking anything and push you to hurry.

Used this way, free classified submission sites are a cheap way to reach local buyers and clients. Keep each ad honest and specific, post only where your customers are, and measure success by the calls and messages you get.

Frequently asked questions

Do classified ads help SEO?

Not much. Ads expire or get pushed down quickly, and mass posting for links fits Google's description of link spam. Classifieds can still send visitors and calls, which is their real value.

Are classified sites really free?

Many are free for basic ads, but some charge for certain categories or for featured placement. Craigslist, for example, charges for job posts and some other categories. Always check the posting rules first.

How often should I repost a classified ad?

Follow each site's rules on renewing. Most sites prefer that you renew or edit an existing ad instead of posting a new copy, and frequent duplicates can get your account blocked.
